What the heck is a rotary transducer?

See the image at right.

It's for measuring the torque of a rotating device. I've seen them on Youtube for measuring how much torque your impact driver can deliver.

They generally us slip rings so that the rotating part can transfer information to the stationary part.

Bluetooth -> No slip rings .. But we would have to withstand the G forces, i.e. shock and centripetal forces.

He mentioned charging. Our favorite inductive charging?

The TI MSP430F477 he mentions is similar to ones that we looked at ..

It's got a 16 bit delta-sigma ADC that's got some reasonable features, differential input, temperature compensation (at least the option to employ it), etc.

The app notes says the maximum data rate is about 34Khz .. I don't know where he gets his 500-8000 SPS. I'll have to read more ..

Potential "Basic" Features

All the stuff below is App related foo Level 2 foo

  • Battery Life Indicator.
  • Battery life indicator.Anything would work as long as you can get a feel for how much battery is left.
  • Ability to change countdown
  • Ability to increase/decrease volume
  • Different timer modes

Moderate Level 3

  • Ability for our customers to update software over time. You wanted to do this anyway.
  • Longer battery life, 10 hours in working mode and 25 hours in idle would be a great goal. +/- 3 hours.

  • Front facing speaker. Just seems to make more sense given that you’ll always be facing the front of the timer.

  • 3/8” female screw hole in the bottom for tripod mounting.
  • Ability for our customers to update software over time. You wanted to do this anyway.

Potential "Nice To Have" Features

Medium Level 6

  • Solve outdoor display issue (could potentially be solved with a visor, maybe a foldable visor, better "light bulbs”, different colors for the display etc.)
  • Replaceable batteries
  • Tone speaker so we can have a voice giving commands

Horrible Level 9

  • Headset enabled (sync with headset)
  • Ability to start timer from Apple watch.

This was EInk's recommendation.

It looks good until you look at the digit height .. About 6.4mm. Magnifying glass time. Driving voltage is 5V or 15V and we have neither.
